Experience
Since my senior year of high school, I have been tutoring other students in chemistry, biology, and physics. Though I began my tutoring career with private sessions in high school, during my college years at Cornell University I began tutoring group sessions and facilitated a weekly study group. Since not every teacher can give a one-on-one explanation for every topic, I feel that being a tutor is a very important job.I love that when I'm teaching others, I am also being challenged. Since each student learns in a different way, it makes me think quickly to create different ways of explaining topics. Working with students has been a motivational experience for me, as I feel the support I give them as a tutor directly impacts their success and confidence. When I am working with students, I feel it is very important that they understand the material I'm teaching them, as opposed to just memorizing the information. By doing so, they will be able to solve questions on their own going forward. Sometimes I like to work backwards on a question, so a student can see where an answer comes from. I also ask questions of the students when they are struggling with a topic to find out where in the problem they are confused. In my spare time, I enjoy tennis, hiking, and running.
